The Punjab Assembly will take up a resolution on Monday, August 11 asking the Federal Government to remove President Pervez Musharraf from the presidential office through an impeachment motion. President Pervez Musharraf will also be asked through this to seek a vote of confidence from the parliament, Punjab Minister Riaz Ahmad said.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday along with Naveed Chaudhry, Munir Ahmad Khan and other PPP leaders, he said that it was the demand of the people and elected representatives of the province that President Musharraf should resign forthwith. He said that results of February 18 elections were sufficient enough to show that people neither support Pervez Musharraf nor PML (Q), the main supporter of Musharraf.
He stated that the coalition government had given time to Musharraf because it wanted to avoid clash of institutions and now Asif Ali Zardari had taken this decision after proper homework. He said that the PPP would also restore judges and those who think that this issue was being put on back burner have no political wisdom.
He said that the coalition would prove successful in all its targets and it would also overcome the problems it inherited from Shaukat Aziz led government such as price-hike, power crisis and others. About how the judges would be restored, Riaz said that such a way would be adopted in which institutions would get stronger. He said that there was no fear of 'Governor's Rule' in the province and they had full confidence in the Salman Taseer.
He said that the PPP was not afraid of NRO and during last 10 years it had faced sufficient trial and nobody could prove anything against PPP leadership. He said that Musharraf had to go now, no matter whatever step he takes.
Regarding the possibility of exercising Article 58-2B, he said that Musharraf is a lion who has no teeth or nails and there is no need to get afraid of him. Regarding contacts from opposition in this regard, he said that a number of members were contacting them and it would evident from the resolution moved on August 11 and members of opposition in the National Assembly would also support the coalition for success of impeachment motion.
