Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, led by leader of the opposition Chaudhry Zaheerudin, protesting against resolution in curtailing power of the President regarding 58-2(B), presented in the provincial assembly recently made a walkout from the assembly premises for the five-minute duration on Friday.
The leader of the opposition, commenting on the resolution, said that they would firmly support the President against any impeachment motion. The house that showed vociferous views in support and against the resolution curtailing of presidential powers presented in the house by a forward group MPA of PML-Q on Thursday, witnessed intense slogan raising "Go Mushaaraf Go" and "Lage Raho Musharraf" in the session.
The house, in its proceedings during the day, passed "the Punjab Pension Fund (Amendment) Bill 2008." The bill was moved by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.
Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz, speaking in the house during the session, demanded of President Musharaf to himself tender resignation, otherwise he would be the first president in the history of the country that would left being impeached, he said. The minister said that conspiracies were being hatched against democracy from the presidency.
Dr Samia Amjad, MPA, in the debate averred that along impeachment of the president, beneficiaries of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) should also go. In the discussion, a severe criticism of former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz from the government benches, accusing him of his policies, was raised. In the question period, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, replying to a query by the MPA, denied that Defence Housing Authority had evolved its own police system.
For their security, they had kept guards, he added. Replying to another query by the MPA, he said that in PP-155, there were five police stations and four substations of theirs.
The Law Minister, replying to a question by MPA Saghira Islam, the Law Minister said that from 2003 to 2007, a total of 1,333 murder cases were registered in district Sheikupura. On another query by the MPA, the Minister said that Punjab government had established a Child Protection and Welfare Bureau with Dr Faiza as its chairperson.
A number of adjournment motions and privilege motions presented in the house were kept in pending on the occasion. During the session, Rana Mushood, acting as chair, sent a minister along with three provincial legislators to meet protesting Punjab Board student outside the assembly premises. The delegation arranged a meeting of the students with the Secretary, Education, and Sardar Zulifqar Khosa, while deliberating with them. Later, the chair adjourned the house for Monday.
