Media coverage of the sit-in by 50 to 60 employees of the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam has brought bad name to the institution and an academic loss to the nation. These allegations have been repeated every five months in SAU's history, but lack merit and are aimed at tarnishing the university's image.
Despite allegations of corruption dogging the university administration, in last four years strikes were called off showing that some disgruntled elements are provoking the matter.
All employees' grievances have been solved, though some people who are enemies of education are damaging the reputation of the institution with baseless allegations of corruption. The university was running a deficit of Rs 63.7 million rupees in 2004, but is now fiscally stable through the fiscal management policies of the incumbent Vice Chancellor.
After the retirement of some Ph.D-holders, the university is pursuing a human resource development program to fill the gap and enhance the Ph.D faculty of SAU. Accordingly, new staff recruitment has been regularly conducted to maintain faculty strength.
38 faculty members have been awarded Ph.D scholarships under various programs of the HEC and 24 of them are already pursuing their degrees in different developed countries, while 14 are in the process of doing so in the next two months. Additional twenty faculty members will be joining them by June 2009. The management of SAU has said that in lieu of these facts, they hope that the media as well as society at large would discourage its disgruntled employees from hurting the educational institution.
