Punjab government is spending Rs 3.63 billion during current fiscal year on converting 144 schools into "Centre of Excellence" schools in the province. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Friday that under the programme all latest education and modern facilities would be provided in these schools.
While 11,000 orphans and deserving male and female students would be provided education and accommodation facilities in 72 schools of the Punjab. This programme would gradually be expanded.
Besides, two schools would also be established at each tehsil headquarter for orphan girls and boys students. Sources further revealed that government has decided to start free air-conditioned school-bus-service for the poor students for mitigating their problems. These air-conditioned buses have already been started in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur and DG Khan.
