Chief Whip of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, on Saturday described the impeachment bid by the coalition partners an "immature and untimely" move. Talking to APP, the PML-Q leader said as the country was going through a "turmoil-like situation," the decision to impeach President Pervez Musharraf was "unjustified and uncalled for."
He asserted the decision was untimely and the situation required the ruling coalition to reach reconciliation with President Musharraf to meet the growing challenges to the state. This bid might lead towards a collision between two state institutions at this stage, which was not in the country's interest, asserted Pirzada.
"It would be a catastrophe for the democratic system if the coalition fails to impeach the president," he warned. "Look, the borders of the country are insecure and the Indian and Nato forces are threatening the country's security. On the internal front, the security of the country is at stake as inflation is on the surge and skyrocketing prices, power crisis and food security are threatening the country's internal security," he said.
Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada opined if impeachment of the president was imperative, the coalition partners should have taken this step soon after their success in the February 18 polls. Pirzada, who has returned triumphant to the National Assembly from Bahawalpur several times, pointed his finger to another important factor regarding the numbers' game race.
"The role of establishment is yet to come forth in this process, as in the past, the Parliament has always been powerless and at the mercy of establishment and other forces," warned Pirzada.
When asked about the reported forward bloc within the party, Pirzada said the PML-Q would decide its course in a meeting to be held on Sunday at Lahore and presided by party President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. On the reinstatement of deposed judges, Pirzada said the judges should be restored even before the impeachment of the president, adding that they (coalition partners) are in a position to do it without any delay.
