Poliovirus found in Sheikhupura during last days is similar to one found in Sawat. Keeping in view this situation, it has been decided to launch a continuous campaign against Polio for three months in the province. This was stated by DG, Health Punjab, Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry talking to a delegation of the World Health Organisation (WHO) here on Sunday.
Special Advisor on EPI. Dr M.H. Wahdan, Country team leader, WHO, Dr Nagma S. Abid besides former Chief Secretary and Advisor for Polio Punjab, Parvez Masud and Consultant WHO Dr Akram Hussain were included in the delegation.
The delegation expressed satisfaction over the steps taken for checking Polio in Punjab. The meeting took a number of decisions to improve Surveillance System. The meeting also decided to conduct three rounds of Polio Vaccination in succession from August to October 2008 for the eradication of Polio in the Punjab. First round of national campaign against Polio would be conducted from August 11 to 13 and all arrangements have been finalised in this regard.
