The commodities in wholesale markets were stubborn and according to traders refusing to budge despite commodities and oil prices are showing depressing conditions in the world during the week ended on August 9, 2008. Some essentials were under pressure owing to efforts by the authorities such as wheat old and new while most commodities were fluctuating both ways and according to availability of them.
However, the bazaar report noted on Monday said wheat old and new with bardana conceded Rs 10 to Rs 2300, while the other kind was quoted at Rs 2315. The customers who were after lifting some essential items expressed the traders trend was threatening and looked market won't be offering the needful.
Meanwhile, Jodia Bazaar was selling plastic mouldings compound such as HDPE film (per Lb) Saudia 952 retreating Rs 3 to Rs 81, Mobile shed same amount to Rs 78, TR 144 was also down by Rs 3 to Rs 78.
HDPE injections Sabric 200056 shed Rs 3.50 to Rs 81, Mobile shed Rs 3 to Rs 80, and Iran was down by Rs 2 to Rs 78. HDPE blow Kuwait retreated by Rs 4, to Rs 77 marlex shed Rs 5 to Rs 77 and Iran was quoted at Rs 75. LDPE 374 shed Rs 6 to Rs 83 and MG 20 turned lower by Rs 10 to Rs 85. LLDPE W118 was down Rs 13 to Rs 84, and 7087 conceded Rs 14 to Rs 83.
Polypropylene film Thai moved lower by Rs 6 to Rs 83, Kuwait was also down by same amount to Rs 6 to Rs 83 and India shed Rs 5 to Rs 83, Polypropylene tape grade India shed Rs 3 to Rs 78, Kuwait shed Rs 3 to Rs 78, and Saudia shed Rs 3 to Rs 78, India was down Rs 5.50 to Rs 77, and Kuwait was quoted at Rs 78, Copoly lower by Rs 4 to Rs 80, and Randon shed Rs 4 to Rs 84, ABS (per bag) polylac 707 shed Rs 100 to Rs 5000, while Iran retreated by Rs 75 to Rs 4,950.
On Tuesday wheat old and new with bardana rose by Rs 10 to Rs 2310, while the better type was quoted at Rs 2325. Bajra low type was down Rs 200 to Rs 2200, while the other type stayed put at the last level. Rapeseed Nawabshah inferior type shed Rs 120 to Rs 1930 while better type was down by Rs 160. Rapeseed Mirpur shed Rs 75 to Rs 1850, while the other type was quoted at Rs 1875. Rapeseed cakes low type shed Rs 25 to Rs 735, while better type dropped by Rs 380 to Rs 740, til shed sharply Rs 300 to Rs 4700, while the other type stayed firm at previous level. Cottoncakes with bag in Sindh rose by Rs 40 to Rs 820, while the other type was quoted at Rs 840.
On Wednesday abrupt trading in commodities was marked as sharp falls in some essentials were reported, but traders were not optimistic and showed mixed feelings. They were not concerned, how the commodities were behaving in world markets. However, some agreed that oil prices were coming down gradually and was impacting the commodities prices with uncertain trend. The traders also expressed that hoarding trend in world markets has also been giving way to bring commodities to markets and quoting lower rates. Ramazan is ahead neither customers nor traders have lost sight-of the fact. Anyway Irri 9 Sindh low type was down Rs 300 to Rs 4500, while other type shed Rs 400 to Rs 4600, Irri 6 Sindh shed Rs 50 to Rs 3550, Basmati D-98 Shahdad Kot and Basmati Bagra jee both lower king shed heavily by Rs 500 to Rs 5500, while better quality shed Rs 400 to Rs 5800, the super basmati Sindh, however, was quoted at Rs 7800. Wheat old and new with bardana fell by Rs 10 to Rs 2300, while better type was quoted at Rs 2315.
Elsewhere, (40 Kg) cloves rose by Rs 200 to Rs 5100, Isbaghol Bhoosi rose by Rs 500 to Rs 17,000 Sago shed Rs 100 to Rs 1,950, Chillies dandicut rose by Rs 800 to Rs 8000 and cuminseed shed Rs 200 to Rs 8,700.
On Thursday firmness prevailed on the grain market as most of the commodity items retained the overnight levels because the rates fall in the international markets. A few changes were: wheat old and new bardana lost Rs 20 to Rs 2,280-2,295.
On Jodia Bazaar variations were: CHINA TEA (per kg): Black China BOP ended up by Rs 30 to Rs 70 and Good PF edged higher by Rs 15 to Rs 65.
INDONESIAN TEA: PFI Good A went up by Rs 15 to Rs 185, Good A edged upward by Rs 8 to Rs 168, BPI (CTC) Good B moved higher by Rs 20 to Rs 210, PD (CTC) finished upward by Rs 15 to Rs 175 and A Grader (Green) went up by Rs 30 to Rs 210.
TANZANIA TEA: PFI (CTC) closed higher by Rs 20 to Rs 185, BPI (CTC) moved upward by Rs 5 to Rs 175 and PC (CTC) finished higher by Rs 15 to Rs 175.
RWANDA TEA: PFI (CTC) finished up by Rs 45 to Rs 220, BPI (CTC) went higher by Rs 45 to Rs 220 and PD (CTC) closed upward by Rs 50 to Rs 210.
On Friday grain and seeds markets were quiet as usual because of Friday.
On Jodia Bazaar trading in dyes items moved up. The changes were: PAKISTANI DYES (per pound): Black Ex was quoted at Rs 150 and Khaki US was quoted at Rs 150. BASIC COLOURS: Rohdamine B moved higher by Rs 70 to Rs 240, basic brown finished up by Rs 95 to Rs 200 and Malachite green moved upward by Rs 20 to Rs 160.
ACID DYES INDIA: Rhodamine was quoted at Rs 520, bordeux B closed higher by Rs 20 to Rs 180, green V (330 percent) moved upward by 100 to Rs 540, violet 6 B ended higher by Rs 25 to Rs 160 and blue N edged up by Rs 15 to Rs 140. TAIWAN (per kg): Brown RX went upward by Rs 30 to Rs 250.
On Saturday higher trend was witnessed on the grain market, although leading buyers were still on the sidelines due to lack of interest. On the cereal side, Barley Sindh and Mardan rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2450-2500 in process of slow trading, wheat old and new Bardana followed same pattern and gained Rs 20 to Rs 2300-2315, Bajra low type gained Rs 50 to Rs 2250.
Sugar superior type was up by Rs 10 to Rs 3050, gur low type was higehr by Rs 100 to Rs 1900.
On Jodia Bazaar trading in Kirana items showed mixed trend. The variations were: KIRANA ITEMS (per 40 kg): White pepper ended down by Rs 760 to Rs 16,000 and Isbaghol Bhoosi moved upward by Rs 3000 to Rs 20,000.
