Industrialist Iqbal Z. Ahmed has strongly refuted reports published in a section of press vis-à-vis claims that he had been deputed to induce defections in the ruling Pakistan People's Party. "The claim is entirely incorrect, mala fide and libellous," said Fasih Ahmed, spokesman for Associated Group (AG).
"No meeting took place between Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Iqbal Z. Ahmed, who was in Karachi last week where he has business interests," he said. "On a personal note, while Ahmed has no interest in politics, he has known Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for the past 20 years and remains deeply committed to their struggle for establishing true democracy in Pakistan."
The reports published in a section of press had claimed that Iqbal Z. Ahmed had flown to Karachi to tempt the ruling party parliamentarians with "all-paid vacations in London, Australia and Norway" as well as between "Rs 50-70 million" for their support to defeat the upcoming impeachment motion against the President.
"This is irresponsible and mischievous drivel and we have referred the matter to our legal counsel," said Ahmed. "Iqbal Z. Ahmed stands firmly and staunchly behind the duly-elected democratic order," his spokesman said. It may be mentioned that Iqbal Z. Ahmed is considered as one of the friends of President Pervez Musharraf.
