River Indus is in low flood at Chashma, Guddu and Sukkur barrages and river Kabul in medium flood at Nowshera, flood warning centre reported here on Tuesday.
Due to heavy rains, moderate to heavy flood is again likely in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts, which has significantly increased water inflow at Guddu Barrage where upstream discharge was 278,800 cusecs, the highest in the current monsoon season. The Punjab government has already declared the adjoining Rajanpur district as flood hit area.
At downstream Sukkur Barrage on river Indus, the water inflow was 250,000 cusecs and outflow 210,700 cusecs, at Kotri barrage the inflow was 113,236 cusecs and outflow 82,416 cusecs, which would greatly help replenish the underground sweet drinking water in the coastal Indus delta districts.
In the upper regions of the country, water inflow in mighty Indus at Jinnah Barrage was 211,300 cusecs, at Chashma 264,900 cusecs, andat Taunsa 239,400 cusecs. Other rivers Jhelum, Chenab and Ravi were flowing normal. Both Tarbela dam on river Indus and Mangla dam on river Jhelum are only 10 feet blow their respective maximum conservation levels of 1,550 and 1,202 feet respectively.
