Cracks in Pakistan Muslim League-Q widened on Tuesday over the issue of impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf as the pro-impeachment faction did not participate in the parliamentary party meeting. Bahadur Khan Sehar, MNA from Layyah, and Shiraz Mehmood from Taunsa, said that they and their 18 companions did not attend the PML-Q parliamentary party meeting because they have decided to support the impeachment motion.
However they added that they had no intention to join the ruling party. They said that there was no justification to support President Musharraf and to defend him in parliament at this juncture when 160 million people were supporting impeachment motion against him.
They said that pro-impeachment group within PML-Q had held its separate meeting in parliament lodges. They claimed that 34 MNAs stayed away from the meeting, and only 20 attended the parliamentary party meeting. However, Q-League sources justified the low participation of the members claiming that it was the first day of the session and a majority of the parliamentarians had not yet reached Islamabad.
