Ruling coalition is delaying the charge sheet against President Musharraf after President House made contacts with PPP leadership seeking safe passage for Musharraf if he resigns, well placed sources told Business Recorder.
After these contacts from some common friends, the ruling coalition has delayed to present the charge sheet in the parliament, they said, adding that these contacts have also exposed the cracks between coalition partners, as PPP show some flexibility towards the President while PML-N is firm in impeachment and trial of president and even they are looking for holding treason proceedings.
The charge sheet based on 15 major points and highlighting the various acts of Constitution of Pakistan which were violated by Musharraf right from coupe of October 1999, was finalised on August 11, (Business Recorder has published the charge sheet in its August 12 edition), they said, adding that there are so many people busy in making reconciliatory efforts between presidency and ruling coalition.
The 15-point charge sheet is about alleged violation of article 5(1) (2), 42, 190, 209, 243 to 245, 257, 262 and 263 of the Constitution. Sources said that after categorical refusal of PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif to give safe passage to President Musharraf, the aides of retired general have shifted their attention from PML-N to PPP and have succeeded in delaying the finalisation of the charge sheet.
Thursday meeting of Special Draft Committee held without members from PML-N and PPP spokesman Farhatullah Baber was unable to reply the question of absence of PML-N leaders from draft committee meeting. This is clear indication that presidency has once again succeeded in creating differences among coalition partners, sources said, adding that this is beyond the thinking that if draft was finalised and charges were levelled against Musharraf then why coalition is not presenting it in the National Assembly.
Nawaz Sharif has once again said that Zardari has promised him that President Pervez Musharraf should not get legal immunity. President will not be given a safe passage and people who broke rules and constitution should be punished and Musharraf will be dealt in the same manner, they said.
It is pertinent to note that on October 12, 1999, Pervez Musharraf held a coup and put the Constitution in abeyance and ousted Nawaz Sharif Government having 2/3rd majority. He ruled the country for more than eight years.
