A large number of taxpayers are likely to miss the deadline of August 15 to pay sales tax, owing to the collapse of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) online system since August 12. Khushnood A. Khan, President, Karachi Sales Tax Bar Association (KSTBA) told Business Recorder on Thursday.
"The Website is unapproachable for the last 48 hours causing hardships in filing sales tax challans by the taxpayers." He said that KSTBA has sent a letter to FBR in this regard and urging to resolve the problem immediately. He added that the association has informed FBR about the registration of taxpayers and filing of returns, which has completely stopped since Tuesday.
Khushnood lauded the decision made by the FBR to extend the date of submitting sales tax return for the month of July to 25th of August, saying the extension in paying sales tax challans should be done in same manner, which is at present 15th of a month. He said that the association has urged FBR to add challan for the payment of sales tax in its online system and appreciated the positive efforts made by the board in this regard.
"A large number of taxpayers have yet not been registered and might miss the deadline of paying sales tax challans in the current month because of website problems," he said. It is feared that FBR web server would be again down on Friday because of excessive burden put by the taxpayers on the last date of submitting the challans.
