Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, inaugurated Food Stamp scheme worth Rs 22 billion held at General Post Office (GPO) here Thursday. The chief minister disclosed that out of total amount Rs 1.8 million would be spent to elevate the position of poor families live below poverty line in the province.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal, provincial ministers and members of civil services were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that this is not the country that had been dreamt by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, therefore this is the prime responsibility of the government to ensure equal distribution of resources among the people of the county to enhance their quality of life.
Moreover, Sharif said that the purpose of scheme is to ensure that the scheme was transparent and reached the deserved. Post Master General Shamshad Hussain also addressed on the occasion. In a separate occasion, Punjab Chief Minister also inaugurated 'Universal Primary Enrolment Campaign' at Government Junior Model Schools Ratigon road.
He was of the view that education is the only means to bring drastic change in the society, which can help achieve heights, adding that government would provide computer to 4,000 schools.
Furthermore, he said that government would spend Rs 3 billion to establish model schools on the pattern of Aitchison College at tehsil level, moreover, he disclosed, under the scheme, 1.7 million children are targeted to enrol in the schools. Also he distributed books and bags amongst the children. Shahbaz Sharif also visited victims of Allama Iqbal bomb blast at Jinnah Hospital.
