Sindh Minister for Women's Development Taqueer Fatema Bhutto has said that her party has a good working relationship with the MQM, adding that it has been proven by MQM support for PPP policies. She was talking to the media while visiting a Women's Jail in Hyderabad today to distribute clothes and sweets among the women prisoners to mark Independence Day.
She felt that this was the right time for political forces to bring unity among their ranks and strengthen democracy in the interest of our country and people. Bhutto said that today Pakistan was facing many challenges, including hunger, poverty, unemployment and internal, as well as external threats. She claimed that democracy was the only way to face these challenges.
The provincial minister also said that if today the government failed to shoulder its responsibilities, the people of Pakistan would not accept any excuses or pardon the country's leaders. Responding a question, Bhutto said that this was the first time that the Women's Development Department was in the field and implementing schemes for the welfare of women.
She said that economic and social empowerment was the main challenge facing today's women and that these issues could not be solved without the active participation of the people and all segments of society. The minister also alleged that the PPP has brought legislation for the protections of women's rights and empowerment and hoped that positive result would be witnessed soon. The Secretary Women Development Department Gul Muhammad Umrani and Jail officials were also present on the occasion.
