The government of NWFP has constituted a high powered supervisory committee at the provincial level to supervise relief operation for Internally displaced people (IDPs) of Bajaur Agency. The committee consists of Rahimdad Khan, Senior Minister P&D, Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Senior Minister LG&RD, Chief Secretary NWFP, Provincial Relief Commissioner, Soomro, Joint Secretary Interior Division and RCOs Peshawar and Malakand.
In order to ensure transparency in distribution and rehabilitation work at district level, the local MPAs and MNAs will monitor and supervise distribution activities. It is pertinent to mention that nearly 2,19,000 persons have left Bajour Agency and in order to provide shelter 17 relief camps have been established in the province, out of which 12 are in Dir Lower where about 0.1 million persons have arrived.
Moreover, three camps have been established in Malakand, one camp is in Pir Piai and one is being set up at Naguman in Peshawar. The government is providing relief items like tents, blankets, medicines and food to shelterless people.
Furthermore, the Provincial Relief Commissioner has released nearly Rs 8.5 million to local administration for emergent relief. The Federal Govt has announced a grant of Rs 100 million as initial assistance for emergency relief.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary has directed the Health Department to immediately send a special team of specialist doctors including a Child Specialist, a Gynecologist, a Surgeon and the Medical Specialist to Dir Lower from Peshawar with supporting staff, medicines and other necessary material.
In addition, a separate special team of four doctors and one female doctor have been sent to attend a large number of IDPs influx from Bajour to Dir. Moreover, it has been directed to constitute teams who should stay in Dir on rotation. An amount of Rs 0.5 million has already been provided to EDO Health and MS District Headquarters Hospital for medicines.
