Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Khan Durrani has said that after providing clean drinking water to Shams Pir, Baba, Bhit and Salehabad islands in Keamari Town, now top priority is being given to their sewerage system.
He stated this while inauguration a pumping station at Shams Pir Island as part of Rs 380 million water supply project for these islands. Sindh Minister for Transport Akhtar Jadoon, Advisor to Chief Minister Rashid Rahhani, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Waqar Mehdi, President PPP Karachi Faisal Raza Abidi, Managing Director KWSB, Suleman Chandio were also present on the occasion.
Siraj Durrani informed that Rs 450 million have been approved for provision of sewerage facility to these islands which shows the present democratic government's commitment to the masses. He pointed out that these Islands were neglected during the last 11 years only because their inhabitants always supported and voted for PPP.
But present government would censure that such neglected areas are provided all basic amenities of life without any discrimination. He said provision of basic amenities is no favour to locals but their due right which was denied to them for the last 11 years. It is our duty to ensure that basic rights of citizen are protected, he added.
On complaints about the non-serious attitude of Town Nazim, the Minister said it is his duty to serve all his constituents without any discrimination and those failing in this will have to face action under law. He announced that two jobs at the pumping station would be given to locals. He said the health centre and area school would be made functional with the posting of required staff.
Agha Siraj assured that he would keep visiting these islands and assured the locals that all their problems would be solved with special development projects. He said Chief Minister Sindh would also be requested to approve special funds for these Islands. Transport Minister Akhtar Jadoon, President PPP Karachi Faisal Raza Abidi, Haji Yunus and Zulfiqar Yunus also spoke on the occasion.
