Burewala's Vehari United Women Football Club has announced their squad for the fourth National Women Football Championship that will get underway at Islamabad's Jinnah Stadium from Wednesday (August 20). Burewala team along with National Club Champion Lahore's WP Club, Karachi's Diya Football Club and Rawalpindi's Young Rising Star had secured their berths by reaching the Super Four of National Women Club Football Championship last month.
Other participants will be holders Sports Sciences of Lahore, Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, NWFP plus teams from regions and organisations affiliated with PFF. Jinnah Stadium also hosted the previous three editions. Punjab won the first edition in 2005 when Abdul Hafeez Malik-coached Punjab managed narrow 1-0 win over Pakistan Wapda. Pakistan's Futsal team skipper Misbah Siddiqui struck lone goal when Wapda won the final of second edition, beating Islamabad in 2006 by same score.
The score was also 1-0 when Lahore's Sports Sciences overpowered Afghanistan through first-half strike, Vehari United Women Football Club's manager Shahnaz Akhter Jaffery and head coach Muhammad Sakhi Mian thanked Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)'s Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat for providing them AFC AID-27 coaches for the training of the team at Government Girls High School Ground, Chak/EB, Burewala. Vehari United will be among five clubs in coming show.
The 18 players in Vehari United are Saima Younas (Captain), Rafia Perveen (Vice Captain), Shazia Javed, Shumaila Kousar, Nazia Javaid, Aqsa Mumtaz, Nabila Younas, Sonia Mushtaq, Tahira Akram, Shahida Kousar, Shakria Rasheed, Shafqat Arshad, Ammara Ajmal, Samia Ashaq, Bushra, Nabila Noreen, Rashida Rani, Maria Yaqoob.
