An impressive flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the 63rd anniversary of the Declaration of Indonesian Independence was held on Sunday morning at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi, which was presided by Consul General H.E. Mustakim.
The Indonesian consular corps members as also Indonesian residents in Karachi attended the colourful ceremony, which was followed by collective prayers and lunch.
The Indonesian community in Karachi was present at the ceremony in the national dress while the ladies mostly wore printed colourful designs of Batik textile dresses.
The flag-hoisting ceremony was inaugurated with the reading of the Holy Quran followed by the formal reading out of the original declaration of Indonesian independence as made on 17th August, 1947 by then revered Indonesian leaders H.E. President Ahmed Soekarno and Vice President Mohammed Khatta.
Then followed the raising of the Indonesian flag over a flagpole in the centre of the lawn of the Indonesian Consulate General while the Indonesian national flag was slowly raised to the top of the flagpole.
In his address on the occasion, Consul General H.E. Mustakim recalled the main achievements of the Indonesian nation under the leadership of President Susilo Bambang Iudhejano.
He also lauded the further growth of friendly and brotherly ties between Indonesia and Pakistan.
Consul General H.E. Mustakim declared the faith of the Indonesian national in the 'Pacha-Sila', the five principles of state policy of Indonesia in which belief in God is cardinal among the five principles followed by consultation among the people on running the affairs of the nation and good neighbourliness.
Consul General H.E. Mustakim also looked forward to the growth of closer ties between Indonesia and Pakistan in the days ahead especially in the economic field.
After his address and the formal reading of the Indonesian Declaration of Independence and the 'Pacha-Sila', the gathering offered collective prayer for the continued progress of the Indonesian nation and stronger ties between Indonesia and Pakistan.
Then followed the traditional lunch with special Indonesian dishes of 'Sati' and 'Kroupeck'. The programme was also attended by President and Secretary General of the Pakistan Indonesia Friendship Society.
