Pakistan members of Pakistan-India Judicial Committee arrives in India on Monday to visit Indian jails to see conditions and plight of Pakistani prisoners.
The committee comprising former justice Fazal Karim, former Justice Mian Muhammad Ajmal, former Justice Abdul Qadeer Chaudhry and former Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid will cross Wagah border in the morning and will visit jails in Amritsar before reaching Indian Capital in the evening. According to the programme, during the five-day visit, the members will visit Jails in Delhi and Jaipur before leaving for Pakistan on August 23.
Before the visit to India, the former judges met Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad. They were informed that Pakistan took many steps to implement the recommendations of the Judicial Committee including release of 34 juvenile fishermen and one civil prisoner on August 15 - India's Independence Day.
The other measures included provision of comprehensive list of all Indian prisoners to the Indian side, provision of consular access to all Indian fishermen in Pakistan, and special consideration, on compassionate and humanitarian basis, being accorded to women, juvenile and disabled prisoners for their repatriation. Pak-India Judicial Committee on Prisoners was set up in January last year.
