ISLAMABAD: The Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has summoned Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday June 17, for further probe into the Sharif family’s offshore assets.

CM Shahbaz Sharif is reportedly asked to appear before the investigating body at 11am to record his statement. He is also asked to bring the record of Hudaibiya Paper Mills.

The JIT has already summoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who will appear before it on Thursday (tomorrow) at Islamabad’s Judicial Academy – which is currently the JIT’s secretariat.

So far the investigation, the elder son of Nawaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz has appeared five times before the JIT, while his younger son Hassan Nawaz has appeared twice.

The Punjab CM was director of Hudabiya Paper Mills (HPM) in 1999. Seventeen years ago the Sharif Family was accused in the HPM scam in which NAB claimed that they had received over Rs1 billion through illegal and fraudulent means and that they were liable to be tried under anti-corruption laws.

PM Nawaz Sharif has stopped the PML-N supporters from visiting the Judicial Academy during the appearance of the Punjab chief minister before the JIT.

Party sources said Nawaz Sharif will appear in his personal capacity and not as the chief executive of the country.

The six-member JIT headed by Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director Wajid Rasool comprises Amir Aziz from State Bank of Pakistan, Bilal Rasool from SECP, Irfan Naeem Mangi from NAB, Brigadier Nauman Saeed from the ISI and Brigadier Kamaran Khursheed from the MI.
