Foreigners took 12.9 percent fewer trips to Canada in June than a year earlier, Statistics Canada said on Monday, due in part to the stronger Canadian dollar, higher fuel prices and a tougher economy. Four out of five of the trips were made by Americans, whose sorties into Canada fell by 15.8 percent.
Canadians, on the other hand, boosted their trips abroad by 9.2 percent, over the year, including taking 9.4 percent more journeys to the United States. The annual figures are not seasonally adjusted. Adjusted for seasonal factors, foreign trips to Canada dropped by 1.3 percent in June from May, while Canadian trips abroad fell by 0.8 percent.
