Distribution of wheat quota: LHC directs food department to avoid favouritism
The Lahore High Court has directed the Punjab Food Department not to discriminate among flour mills while distributing wheat quota, and supply wheat to the mills. The court passed these orders while disposing of a petition of Raja Flour Mill of Jhehlum pleading that the food department was providing wheat to them much below the allocated quota.
Petitioner also complained that the department was showing favouritism in wheat distribution and bulk of it was being provided to those owned by politicians and influential persons.
Petitioner's counsel alleged that the food department was distributing wheat to their favourite flourmills and depriving the petitioner of its legal and fundamental right. Counsel said the petitioner had established the flourmill after qualifying the given criteria of the government so it could not be deprived of their right quota in any case.
