The High Court Bar Multan staged a demonstration on Wednesday and burnt the effigy of US President George W Bush to express resentment against the US government for opposing reinstatement of judges. Emotionally charged lawyers shouted slogans against Musharraf and in favour of Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. They shouted slogans against the USA.
The demo was led by Mehmood Ashraf, President, and Naveed, General Secretary. Lawyers at city courts warned of a strong movement against the rulers if they deviated from their commitment of restoring judges, including the deposed chief justice of Pakistan within the timeframe agreed upon in the Islamabad agreement. They said that 24 hours out of a total of 72 had already passed. The ultimatum was given at a general body meeting of High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Multan.
The lawyers were unanimous on one point that former President Musharraf should be hanged for his crimes and he must not be given safe passage as it would be tantamount to committing treachery. The legal representatives also staged a march which started from the District Courts premises and culminated at the Kutchery Chowk. The march was led by Najaf Ali and Muhammad Ashraf.
