The government was asked in the National Assembly to provide free legal aid to Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is presently languishing in the custody of the United States.
At a point of order, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of PML-N said that a Pakistani citizen, Dr Aafia Siddiqui along with her three children was in the custody of US agencies and in a miserable condition, asking the government to provide her free legal aid as well as making diplomatic efforts to get her released as soon as possible.
"It is purely a humanitarian issue as a Pakistani women and her children are in a miserable condition in the custody of the US, who need immediate help," he said adding the House should pass a joint resolution to condemn the act and ask the US authorities to immediately release her.
Dr Aafia Inayatullah of PML-Q also demanded of the House to pass a joint resolution against the US authorities for torturing Dr Afia as well as against the Indian press condemning the publications of the blasphemous caricatures. On the occasion, Law Minister Farooq H Naek informed the House that resolution for both the purposes were ready and would present in the House on Thursday by the concerned Minister.
