US copper futures rose early Monday as investors took advantage of a holiday in London to push prices higher in mostly technical business, traders said. Copper for September delivery was trading up 1.35 cents at $3.4860 a lb by 10:41 am EDT (1441 GMT) on the New York Mercantile Exchange's Comex division.
The morning trading range was from $3.4405 to $3.5040. Comex estimated futures volume at 3,172 lots by 9 am. Copper trading up in the middle of a near-term technical range between $3.4370 and $3.5510, traders said.
