Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) has suspended supply of gas to 3 power houses of Pakistan Electric Supply Company (pepco) included Muzaffargarh Powerhouse, Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO) and Faisalabad Gas Turbine Power Station. Domestic and commercial consumers are facing unprecedented load shedding because of suspension of gas supplies.
These powerhouses are not providing any power supply to the National Grid Station, causing an additional shortfall of about 1000 MW of electricity in the National Grid and overall shortfall of more than 5000MW throughout the country. Under these circumstances, Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has to resort to forced load shedding in various areas. Resultantly, electricity consumers have been facing load shedding for relatively longer hours than normal load management schedules.
Seven to eight hours'' load shedding is being observed in the provincial metropolis, causing lot of problems for the domestic and commercial consumers. The sources in the SNGPL told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that pipeline supplying gas to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited from Zamzama Gas Field was blown by miscreants.
The source said consequently, supply of gas to Muzaffar Garh powerhouse, Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO) and Faisalabad Gas Turbine Power Station had been suspended. The sources further said all the available sources were being used by the Sui gas companies to rectify the problem. Replying to a question he said, " It is expected that the situation will normalise within two days."
The unprecedented power cut in the various cities paralysed life. In Gujranwala city, people from the different walks of life staged a protest rally and chanted slogans against the administration of the Gujranwala Electric Supply Company. The participants of the rally were holding placard and banners. They marched on the main roads of the city and blocked the traffic for some time.
