The Pharmacy Council of Pakistan has allowed the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore to initiate Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) classes this year. A UVAS spokesman said on Friday that the permission was granted in a meeting of the Pharmacy Council held on the City Campus of the UVAS.
The Vice President of the council, Professor Dr Javed Iqbal and Chairman, Department of Pharmacy, University of Balochistan, Professor Dr Abdullah Dayo, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Sindh University, Assistant Professor Pharmaceutics, University of Karachi, Dr M Haris Shoaib, Dr Khalid Saeed Bukhari from the WHO, Secretary, Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, Nazeer-ud-Din Ahsan, Secretary, Punjab Pharmacy Council, Muhammad Shamoon and Dr Ayaz Ali Khan attended the meeting. The Vice Chancellor (VC), UVAS, Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz and Deans of faculties were also present at the occasion.
Earlier, the VC gave a presentation to the Council on academic programmes of the UVAS and its planning and facilities already available for initiating the Pharm-D programme. The Council delegation also visited the site where the Pharm-D classes will be held and inspected the laboratories, classrooms and other facilities being available for the Pharm-D programme. Meanwhile, a four-day workshop on 'Project Designing and Management' concluded in the UVAS.
The Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management, UVAS in collaboration with the Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Punjab arranged the workshop for senior livestock professionals.
Later, a certificate distribution ceremony was held on completion of the workshop, in which the VC and Dean, Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha gave away certificates to the participants. Addressing the occasion, the VC said, if designing and planning of a project was done well, half of the work was done. Further, he urged veterinarians to work for the development of livestock sector as leaders of the field.
