Pakistan Muslim League (Q) presidential candidate Mushahid Hussain Syed on Friday urged Asif Zardari to withdraw his nomination for presidential candidate, as office of head of the state is symbol of federation and it should not be occupied by a controversial person.
Talking to media persons at the Parliament House, Mushahid also urged the PPP leader to clarify his position about his illness, which was reported by a reputed UK paper. "The people of Pakistan want to know the exact position. The PPP has not contradicted the report," he added.
"The president is head of Nuclear Command Authority. The same office is having the supreme command of armed forces. Therefore, this office must be held by competent person," Mushahid replied to a question. He said that Zardari's eligibility as a candidate for president slot was under question. Everybody knows about Zardari's past, he added. Mushahid asked Zardari to quit the presidential election for the sake of democracy and his own party. He said that he was ready for public debate with PPP co-chairman at any forum. "My challenge for him for public debate was there in the past and it is still there even today," he remarked.
