Acting President Muhammadmian Soomro stressed the need for formation of a comprehensive strategic framework by involving all elements of national power to resolve the issues confronting the country. "It is high time to work for national integration by involving all segments of society, civil and military to address the major issues confronting the country," Soomro said.
While addressing certificate-distribution ceremony of the 8th National Security Workshop at National Defence University (NDU) here on Saturday. The workshop was attended by senators, members of national and provincial assemblies, members of Legislative Assemblies (Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas), district nazims, media professionals, ambassador-designate, military officials, and lawyers.
He said the country is facing crisis of oil and food inflation and energy shortage, which has badly affected the common man, besides economic structure of the country. "It needed to be resolved through proper strategies developed through national consensus", he added.
He said the country's tremendous human resource structure was adamant to deal with national challenges, if the people were equipped with proper technical skills. Soomro said to focus on the complex ways where regional and global factors impinge upon the national issues. He commended the role of NDU for conducting such workshops to benefit the leadership and for their intellectual capacity-building to help them cope with challenges.
He expressed hope that through deliberation and collective reflection, the workshop would help the participants foster a clear perception of the challenges and problems confronting Pakistan. "Through a process of debate, dialogue and sustained interaction, these workshops pave the way for developing consensus on key issues and challenges facing Pakistan," he said.
Soomro urged the participants of the workshop to reflect on the issues from a national viewpoint, and introduce themselves to the methodology of formulating comprehensive strategies.
NDU Acting Commandant Major General Tariq Masood highlighted the key features of the five-week workshop that provided the participants an enabling environment to discuss statecraft involved in policy-making on national security. He said the workshop, which was attended by representatives from different segments of society, focused on how to institutionalise the challenges, and turn them into opportunities.
