The Provincial Health Department has clarified that no cholera out break has been reported in the camp established for the Internally Displaced Persons of Bajaur (IDPs) in Charsadda and the situation is under control in the area.
Commenting on news reports about the spread of the epidemic of gastroenteritis in IDPs camp, the health department spokesman said that some diarrhoea cases had been reported in the area which were treated in-time and all the patients were stable now.
Elabourating on the arrangements made for providing medical cover to the IDPs, he told that medical teams were providing round the clock services in the Palosa Camp, Charsadda in three shifts regularly.
The spokesman informed that the teams included doctors, nurses, dispensers, EPI and malaria technicians while sufficient quantity of medicines was available for the IDPs. He further added that two wards had also been specified for IDPs in DHQ Charsadda. The spokesman further informed that medical staff and drugs had been provided in six camps established for the Bajaur affectees in Malakand Agency.
He said that 145 patients were examined in these camps on Friday out of which 30 were detected as minor gastroenteritis cases adding that all the patients were treated and now they were in good condition. Similarly, the spokesman said that apart from local teams specialist doctors were deployed for providing medical cover to the IDPs in Dir Lower.
Dr Fazle Qayyum, Director Public Health and Focal person for IDPs disclosed that large quantity of drugs had been provided by WHO, UNFPA, government of Punjab and other agencies for IDPs. "Arrangements have been made for constant supply of drugs in camps established for the IDPs", he added.
