On the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister, 34 trucks of eatables, medicines, mineral water and tents have so far been dispatched from the province for more than 300,000 victims of Bajaur Agency. Punjab Relief Secretary Rizwanullah Baig disclosed this during a press conference here on Saturday.
He said that the government has also constituted a four-member committee for supervision of relief process and other related matters under the supervision of Zafer Iqbal Jhagra. "The other members of the committee include Sardar Mahtab Khan, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Kamran Shafi and Naureen Haider. The committee will ascertain the requirement of the victims and ensure that only those items are sent that are needed," he added.
He informed the newsmen that arrangements have been completed for providing relief to the victims of Bajore Agency on emergency basis. He disclosed that relief items sent from Punjab have been handed over to NWFP government and one trucks-load of relief items is sufficient for 100 families.
In response to a question, secretary said agri-loans of Rs 44 billion of flood victims of Rajanpur have been written off. He also said that surveys are being conducted to declare Kasur, Okara, Bhawalnager and Vehari as calamity-stricken areas. "The government is paying Rs 100,000 to the family of each deceased person while Rs 50,000 are being paid to seriously injured persons. Similarly, Rs 20,000 are being paid as relief for the loss of each cattle," he added.
