Senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Makhdoom Amin Fahim has said that PPP has a clear majority in the presidential election and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will be the new President of the country with overwhelming majority.
"The country is facing a tough time as feeble economic condition, deteriorating law and order situation and skyrocketing prices need immediate attention," Amin Fahim said while talking to media outside Parliament House on Friday.
He said: "It is time to take united efforts to bring country out of the crisis it is facing. If the country stays intact, we would be able to govern it. But if, God forbid, the state itself collapses, what to talk of forming governments," he warned.
Fahim expressed hope that Asif Zardari would bag maximum votes in the presidential polls. However, he said the president, being the representative of the federation, should play a role of a referee.
He dispelled the impression of change of loyalties by parliamentarians, saying: "I have no information of any legislator changing loyalties. Neither I know when the deposed judges would be restored. However, in my view, the Article 58-2(b) of the Constitution should be repealed," he added. He declined to give an affirmative reply to question of PML-N's rejoining the coalition. saying that he had no information whether or not the PML-N would rejoin the ruling coalition.
The PPP leader expressed concerns over the worsening law and order situation across the country. "The firing on motorcade of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is not an ordinary incident. The law and order situation is worsening and this should be handled with care. On the other side, the price hike is touching new heights and this should be controlled instantly," he said.
He said that the government should take appropriate steps to maintain the writ of the government and law and order in every part of the country and regain the lost confidence of people on government and its institutions.
