Chief Comm-issioner Islamabad, Hamid Ali Khan visited sasta bazaar in G-7/2 and fair price shops in Bhara Kau reviewed the arrangements regarding supply and availability of food items by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration for providing edible items to the citizens at cheaper rates during the month of Ramazan.
Khan also met with the citizens during his visit to sasta bazaar and fair price shops and sought their feedback on the arrangements. Citizens expressed their full satisfaction over the arrangements for providing food items at the reduced rates. They also appreciated the Ramazan relief package provided by the ICT Administration by setting up sasta bazaars and fair price shops in the city and rural areas of Islamabad.
Further, expressing their views citizens said that 15 to 20 percent relief was being provided on the purchase of food items in sasta bazaars and fair price shops as compared to the rates of open market.
Assistant Commissioner city /in charge sasta bazaar, Maryam Khan told that complaint box had also been placed in sasta bazaar to address the complaints of the citizens on the spot on daily basis.
Chief Commissioner while talking to citizens in sasta bazaar said that the bazaars are providing greater relief to the citizens and food items were available at much cheaper rates as compared to the Market rates.
He further said that 14 price checking teams headed by the magistrates, were also exercising great vigilance on the prices of food items in open market and so far the magistrates have imposed fine amounting Rs196000 on 400 profiteeers during the last six days Eighteen profiteers were also arrested for selling flour bags and meat on higher rates.
Later, khan also visited fair price shops in Bhara Kau and reviewed the availability of food items particularly the availability of 20 kg flour bags in the rural areas at the control rates of Rs290.
Furthermore, citizens also appreciated the steps taken by the ICT Administration for provision of food items at the cheaper rates. Chief Commissioner ICT ensured the citizens that supply of flour bags in the rural areas was being further increased and he has requested the Punjab government to increase the wheat quota for Islamabad in order to meet the requirement of the city. The situation would be further improved in the coming days, he added.
