Greeting President-elect Asif Ali Zardari on his magnificent victory, the Washington D.C. chapter of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called it a result of the untiring struggle of the party for democracy and expressed the confidence that the top leadership would address the challenges facing the country.
The party leaders at a meeting paid tribute to former prime minister Benazir for her long struggle and ultimate sacrifice for the cause of democracy. They said Asif Zardari has continued that struggle toward full democratic rule and proved that democracy provides the way forward in accordance with aspirations of the people.
President of the Washington chapter, Dr Javed Manzoor, senior vice president of the D.C. chapter, Jawad Shirazi and senior vice president PPP USA, Muhammad Iftikhar Zaidi recalled the unparalleled and long struggle waged by Benazir. They lauded the statesmanship shown by Asif Zardari in leading the political forces and said he has proved to be a true inheritor of the party leadership.
Meanwhile, former PPP Washington D.C. president and patron member of the party Faqir Hussain Naqvi in a statement felicitated Asif Ali Zardari on his democratic win, praising his acumen and saying Zardari's election as president marks the inception of an era of full democracy in the country. PPP leaders Ali Nawaz Memon, Dr Amjad Riar, Munir, Waziri Awan, Mansoor Qureshi also congratulated Asif Zardari on his success and paid tribute to the Bhutto family for their key contribution to the advancement of democracy.
