Chairman All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab Zone, Akber Sheikh, has congratulated Asif Ali Zardari, Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), on his assumption of the Office of the President of Pakistan. The Presidency of Pakistan is a sacred office and a symbol of the unity of the Federation.
The nation has bestowed its wholehearted trust on Asif Ali Zardari, as indicated by the overwhelming majority of votes cast in his favour. Since Zardari has taken over the Presidency at a time when the country is facing serious security and economic issues, the nation should put its full support behind the newly elected democratic set up and pull together to get out of the difficult situation.
The APTMA (PZ) Chairman has suggested that economic revival cannot be achieved without revival of industrial sector, especially export oriented textile sector, which has been seriously damaged by shortage of gas, electricity and cotton. He said that it was encouraging to know that the Federal Government is cognisant that energy shortages both gas and electricity, need to be tackled on a priority basis to arrest the adverse effect on industrial output and export performance.
Akber Sheikh said that resolution of issues like shortage of electricity & low cotton productivity by the present government would result in enhanced exports that could even exceed the export realisation target set by the previous government. Akber Sheikh noted that the government's vision for securing better market access for Pakistani produce abroad was most encouraging.
Chairman APTMA Punjab said that provision of right conditions would inculcate confidence of the textile industry in the visionary leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari. The Chairman explained that given the right conditions, the textile industry of Pakistan has the potential to grow exponentially and ensure progress & prosperity for the country at large.
He appealed to the President that there are certain problems specific to the textile industry located in Punjab, home of 70 per cent textile industry that should be looked into on priority basis. Akber Sheikh assured the President and the government of all co-operation of the industry to secure economic progress.
