Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that whole nation should stand united to foil the evil designs of external forces to maintain sovereignty and integrity of the country. He expressed his views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of construction of Main Boulevard, Sabzazar under the programme of repair and construction of the roads of the provincial metropolis, here on Thursday.
He said that in order to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state unity should be forged in our ranks and we should play our due role at individual and collective level for the prosperity of the nation. He said that national resources were not meant for acquiring planes, luxurious vehicles and palatial houses and offices but should be used for poverty alleviation and solution of people's problems and other hardships.
The ceremony was also participated by Provincial Minister, Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, assembly members including, Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Bilal Yasin, Malik Afzal Khokhar, Malik Riaz, Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad and Chairman Task Force, Kh. Ahmad Hassan, senior officers of concerned departments were also present on the occasion.
The chief minister said that the process of progress and prosperity of the country had been resumed from where it was interrupted by a dictator who removed democratically elected government of Mian Nawaz Sharif on October 12, 1999 and plunged the country into crises.
He said that the country had been on a downward slide during the last eight years and all sectors have faced ruination. He said that removal of sense of deprivation of the masses and mitigation of their sufferings is the responsibility of the present government as it considers itself answerable to the people.
He said that present government would serve the masses selflessly and would strive for their welfare and prosperity. The chief minister said that in order to provide relief to the masses during the holy month of Ramzan Punjab government has ensured provision of essential items to citizens at reasonable rates as well as supplying 20kg atta bag at Rs 300.
He said that efforts were also being made by administration on his instructions for ensuring availability of Roti for Rs 2. He said that Punjab government is providing a subsidy of two billion rupees for supplying Sasta Atta to the masses.
Moreover, he said that the development activities have been started in Lahore as well as other areas of the province and the people would soon feel a positive change. He said that 70 tubewells would start functioning in the next few days for providing potable water to people of Lahore. During his speech when Mian Shahbaz Sharif asked about supply of Atta at the fixed price, he was told that Atta had been available in abundant quantity.
Mian Marghoob Ahmad MNA, Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad MPA and Chairman Task Force Kh. Ahmad Hassan also addressed on the occasion. Earlier, Colonel Arsalan of Frontier Works Organisation while giving a briefing about development projects in Sabzazar said that several roads would be constructed in the area at a cost of 350 million rupees.
