Awami Jamhoori Ittehad (AJI) strongly demanded of the coalition government to restore all the deposed judges and 1973 constitution in its original form and say goodbye to the American policies. This was the view of the speakers expressed at a press conference held here on Saturday, where members AJI Dr Farzana Bari, Asim Sajjad and Jahangir Akhtar were the main speakers.
The speakers said that real democracy has been restored in the country and it is the time to restore all the deposed judges on November 2, 2007 position, which is necessary for the independence of judiciary as independent judiciary could only provide justice to the masses.
They further demanded of the government that the 17th amendment should be removed and the constitution should be restored in its original 1973 form. 'To have real parliamentary system in the country, we should get rid of the 58-2(B),' they opined.
The participants strongly condemned the American force incursion into Pakistan territory. They also criticised the Pak Army for not retaliating. They demanded of the government to say goodbye to the American policies and defend the sovereignty of the country.
The participants opined that the coalition government should call joint session of all the parties to discuss these important issues. The people have shown their confidence in political forces during elections held on February 18. They said that it is better that democracy has been restored in the country and if this time they fail to strengthen it, the people would come on the roads and anarchy would prevail.
