Acting President Dr Fehmida Mirza has called the security of the country a top most priority saying that national security and internal stability were of paramount importance and no one would be allowed to challenge the writ of the state.
She was speaking here after briefing given to her by Interior Ministry about the situation in Bajaur. Rehman Malik, Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior gave a detailed briefing to acting President regarding the measures being taken for the rehabilitation of people displaced due to the operation. Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Kareem Kundi and other high officials of the Interior Ministry were also present during the briefing.
Dr Fehmida Mirza appreciated the efforts for the rehabilitation of displaced people in Bajaur. She also appreciated the co-ordination between the federal and the provincial governments and the measures taken in the area to strengthen the civilian law enforcing agencies. She said that all possible measures should be taken to address the grievances of affected people of the area on fast track basis.
Rehman Malik in his briefing told the acting President that all necessary measures were being taken to provide relief and shelter to 300,000 people who were displaced during the Bajaur Operation. The displaced people from Bajaur Agency are now returning to their homes as militants from most of the areas have been flushed out, he said.
As a result of the efforts of government all the people have been rehabilitated in the area except 50,000 people who are left behind, Malik said, adding that the government has provided tents, food and medicine. He said that the National Disaster Management Authority is providing relief to the people in co-ordination with the relief commissioner of NWFP.
