Secretary Health Punjab Anwaar Ahmad Khan inaugurated three days anti-polio campaign by administering polio drops to the children in Government Mian Munchi Hospital, here on Saturday.
Representative of World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Ahmad Darvesh, UNICEF Chief Punjab Deepak Bachariya, DG Health Services Punjab Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry, Director EPI Dr Fida Ali, EDO (Health), Lahore, Dr Nasir Khan and other officers of the health department were present on this occasion.
While addressing the function, Secretary Anwaar Ahmad Khan said that public health is the top priority in government's agenda. He said that only healthy people could fully participate in the national development. He said that making polio campaign a success is also responsibility of parents. He advised them to get their children vaccinated at all costs. He also directed the workers of health department who were participating in mobile teams of polio campaign that they should work with a commitment considering this campaign as a noble cause.
The Secretary further said no polio case was detected in Punjab during the past few years, but unfortunately during the current year six cases had been detected in Punjab while in the whole country 46 polio were registered. He further said that from 15th to 17th September, 15.8 million children of up to five years of age would be vaccinated and 38 thousand mobile teams had been constituted to pay door to door visit for administering polio drops.
