The Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Sunday demanded of the government to convene either joint session of the Parliament or Round Table Conference (RTC) to evolve consensus policy regarding the internal and external security threats confronting the country.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday Shujaat urged the government to develop a policy with the consent of political forces of the country to address the security threats particularly violation of Pakistan's territorial integrity by the US forces. He said it was high time to give priority to national interest as the country was passing through a sensitive phase.
Speaking about the political scenario in Punjab, the former Prime Minister made it clear that there should not be any 'undemocratic' move to topple the Punjab government led by PML-N.
He said that his party was not going to make alliance with any party at this stage. But the PML-Q was in contact with both the PPP and PML-N, he added.
Shujaat said the PML-N was pursuing double standards as on one hand it had been governing the Punjab province along with the PPP and on other hand it was eyeing for opposition leader's slot in the center. He informed the media persons though Pervez Elahi has resigned as leader of the opposition but Senator Kamil Ali Agha would continue to perform his duties as Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
PML-Q president was of the view that his party was still intact and all those members who did not vote party's candidate Mushahid Hussain Syed in presidential poll were still with the party.
Mushahid Hussain Syed, Secretary General PML-Q told reporters that there was dire need of national reconciliation. President Asif Ali Zardari should visit neighbouring country China when there were threats at countries' eastern and western borders. Political sources told Business Recorder that Elahi's resignation was the result of backdoor negotiations between the PML-Q and PPP senior leadership for entering into an alliance.
