The United Kingdom appreciates Pakistan's role in the war on terror, Pakistan High Commissioner to United Kingdom Wajid Shamsul Hassan said on Sunday. In an Interview with a private TV channel he said the press has misquoted the statement of the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown about his support to the American policy of attacks inside Pakistani territory.
He said UK is trying hard to convince the Americans that their latest policy with regard to Pakistan is wrong. British MP Lord Nazir has written a letter to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown urging him not to support the American move. Several other MPs are also active in this regard. Pakistan is a sovereign country and wants to settle all the matters regarding situation in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) through diplomacy.
The bombing in FATA by coalition forces has created anger among the Pakistanis living in the UK and we have told them the government is aware of the gravity of the problem. President Asif Ali Zardari is likely to meet British PM Gordon Brown on Monday and exchange views with him. Matters of mutual interest would come under discussion as the President is keen to seek British co-operation to improve economy of Pakistan.
Wajid Shamsul Hassan said during talks Pakistan would convey to the Britain that it has done more in the war on terror than others. The coalition forces in Afghanistan achieved less success and killed many innocent people including women and children. As compared to them, Pakistani forces have made tactical gains against militants.
