Ukraine's steel output rose to 29.864 million tonnes in January-August 2008 from 28.963 million in the same period in 2007, the State Statistics Committee said on Monday. It said pig iron output rose to 24.317 million tonnes from 24.072 million a year earlier while rolled steel production fell to 16.085 million from 16.419 million.
Ukraine, the world's eighth-largest steel maker, produced 42.8 million tonnes of crude steel in 2007, or 3.2 percent of world output, International Iron and Steel Institute data show.
