Muhammad Ahmad, the son of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, reached Islamabad on Monday evening following his hand over to Pakistani diplomats by Afghan Government in Kabul. Muhammad Ahmad was later handed over to his family. Muhammad Ahmad reported missing since the detention of his mother.
He was arrested with his mother, who is under trial in the United States for the charges of, what the US said, attacking US secret agent. Reports from Embassy in Kabul said, " Muhammad Ahmad, 12, was accompanying his mother Aafia Siddiqui--a US educated Pakistani women who was reportedly held in the Ghazni province of Afghanistan in July.
Hassan was also in Afghan detention since July when his mother was "nabbed". He is having a dual Pak-US nationality, and Aafia adopted her after her biological parents were killed in 2005 Kashmir earthquake, a spokesman of Afghan Foreign Ministry said.
"Aafia was first taken to a US military base from where she was flown to New York where she is facing charges of assault on US personnel in Ghazni," the reports added.
Aafia Siddiqui, 36, came to the United States in 1990 and studied at the University of Houston and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she got a bachelor's degree in biology in 1995. She later studied neuroscience as a graduate student at Brandeis University. Aafia went of missing from Karachi in 2003.
