The Anjuman Tarraqui-e-Urdu Pakistan organised a condolence meeting here on Tuesday to mourn the demise of Professor Ralph Russel. A rich tributes were paid to the British scholar and researcher who died on Sunday at the age of 90, for his services towards the Urdu language and literature.
It was also pointed out that the Anjuman had published Professor Russel's book on Urdu literature. The President of the Anjuman, Aftab Ahmed Khan, and Honorary Secretary, Dr Jamiluddin Aali, also recounted the services of the deceased towards Urdu language.
The vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, has also condoled the demise of Professor Ralph Russel. In a condolence message, he said that the deceased was greatly interested in Urdu literature and had introduced Urdu and especially Ghalib in the West. The Vice-Chancellor said that Professor Russel was also impressed with the poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
