The government wants to build a kidney centre in Afghanistan to serve under-privileged patients. The proposed Nishtar Kidney Centre (NKC) would be constructed at Jalalabad, adjacent to River Kabul.
This was stated by Dr Adeeb Rizvi, founder, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) along with Khalid Yar, Afghan Consul General in Pakistan that kidney disease is very high in Afghanistan however, treatment facilities are not available. Therefore, the government of Pakistan has intended to help Afghan brothers by donating Afghanistan a kidney centre.
"Despite all blames claimed by Afghan government that Pakistan is on front to promote Islamic extremism caused in cross-border insurgency, the government of Pakistan always strives to help them in every difficult situations".
An Afghan trade and development cell has been established in the ministry of foreign affairs aimed at resolving obstacles in constructing kidney centre at Jalalabad.
He sad that cell is focusing on several issues, including construction of centre, training of doctors, paramedical staff, bio-medical engineers and rehabilitation facility. Adeeb apprised that SIUT has been requested to train Afghan doctors, paramedical staff, bio-medical engineers in this regard. He said that SIUT has given positive response and provided six months training to 18 members without any charges.
They have professionally been trained to entertain patients especially sufferings from kidney diseases and renal failure. Adeeb said that Afghan team was also trained for insertion of central lines for dialysis and making arterio venous fistula.
Khalid lauded the efforts made by the government, saying that the decision to establish kidney centre at Jalalabad is appreciable and hoped that these decisions would definitely help both countries to resolve several complex issues.
