The Lahore High Court (LHC) responding to a petition challenging the election of Member National Assembly of Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Sumaira Malik from NA-69, has directed the MNA to appear before the court on September 26.
Earlier, the court directive came after the MNA did not turned up even after being repeatedly summoned by the court. The petitioner, Malik Umar Aslam Awan alleged that the Election Commissioner had changed the results provided by the presiding officers.
He also alleged that Sumaira used the state machinery at the behest of her bureaucrat husband. Further, it was also alleged in the petition that seven presiding officers were abducted and were recovered after orders by the returning officer. 'Sumaira did her intermediate in 1981 but had not done graduation till 2002. Her husband, who was then the additional secretary schools, obtained a fake BA degree for her,' Awan said in the petition.
Furthermore, besides being under-graduate, she was also a bank defaulter and a petition in this regard was already pending before the LHC Rawalpindi bench, therefore was not eligible to contest elections, the petitioner contended. Awan prayed to the court to disqualify Sumaira and declare him a returned candidate from the constituency.
