Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri on Thursday reiterated the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) led government's commitment to the freedom of press. "The government has a complete faith in freedom of media and would take concrete measures for the welfare of journalist community," she said while addressing an Iftar-Dinner organised by Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) Dastoor at Karachi Press Club on Thursday.
Other notables who attended the dinner included PPP's MNA Fouzia Wahab, Provincial Minister Muzaffar Ali Shujra, Leader of the Opposition in City Council Saeed Ghani, Acting President of Pakistan Muslim League-N Sindh Salim Zia Advocate, President Awami National Party Sindh Shahi Syed, General Secretary Amin Khatak, Chairman LPG Distributors Association Abdul Hadi Khan, member of provincial assembly Shamma Mithani, PML-N leaders Zahid Rafique Butt and Advocate Nihal Hashmi and others.
Lauding media's role in the restoration of democracy in the country, the information minister vowed that her government, as per its manifesto, would ensure complete freedom to the media.
She said the existence of a large number of political figures at the gathering was reflective of the fact that democracy was flourishing in the dictators-hit country. Earlier, President KUJ Dastoor Mohammad Arif in his welcome address resolved that the annual tradition of Iftar/Dinner would be continued in future.
