The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pakistan Stone Development Company (Pasdec) for providing trained manpower in the field of marble industry. Tevta Chairman Mohsin Syed and Pasdec Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ihsanullah Khan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
The natural marble/stone industry has a very high growth level. The cost of per sqft of marble fixing abroad is higher than any other synthetic or natural material. Pakistan has a very high quality marble available as well as natural stone, which can be used in mosaics. Skilled labour is required in the areas of pattern making, mesh fixing, cutting, polishing, fixing according to design in size.
According to the MoU terms, Tevta will provide space, monthly stipend of Rs 500 to trainees, training facilities training cost, utilities, curriculum and certificates to all successful trainees while Pasdec will arrange trainers, training material, equipment, operational cost, on the job training and placement of the successful trainees.
This program will be called "Tevta Pasdec Special Training Program (TPSTP). The MoU is to establish collaborated efforts for development and implementation of a demand driven quality training for marble industry. This will also help to bridge the gap between demand and supply of the trained work force in this sector.
