Farmers Associates Pakistan (FAP) has urged the government to ask the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (Passco) to immediately start buying paddy. The executive committee of the FAP in its recently held meeting welcomed the government decision that Passco and Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) would buy paddy and rice to ensure stability of prices of this commodity.
Nevertheless, it said that government was oblivious of the fact that IRRI prices were already around Rs 650 per maund in the markets, which was Rs 100 per maund lower than the government's proposed price. While Passco had also not started any activity in this regard.
FAP strongly protesting the delaying attitude of the Passco said that all types of IRRI would remain with the farmers for next fifteen days maximum and if Passco not acted right now, it would cause loss to the farmers. Middleman would take benefit of delay by the Passco, FAP said and added that if government wanted to see stability in the prices of Super Basmati then it should direct the Corporation to start buying paddy at the earliest.
