Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and Pakistan Dairy Development Company (PDDC) joined hands to facilitate establishment and growth of community-based dairy farms and other dairy development programmes to improve the milk production in the country.
Both the organisations would work in close co-ordination to help improve the milk production through community mobilisation, technical assistance and provision of market linkages to the poor dairy farmers. In this regard, an agreement was signed by Kamal Hyat, CEO/MD PPAF, and Geoff Walker, Chief Executive PDDC here Friday.
Initially, the pilot project would be launched in district Narowal where both the parties have agreed to work with 30 community farms. Later, the project would be replicated in other districts of the country.
Under the agreement, PPAF would facilitate linkages between its partner organisations and PDDC for the benefit of the poor dairy farmers. Whereas the PDDC would provide technical assistance and marketing linkages to PPAF beneficiary community members through community mobilisation. The partner organisations of PPAF are supported to mobilise and organise poor communities to undertake collective action for their own development whereas PDDC undertakes initiatives for milk production enhancement across the country through various means, especially technical and financial assistance.
PPAF is the lead institution for poverty-focused interventions in the country. Set up as a fully autonomous private sector institution, PPAF enjoys facilitation and support from the Government of Pakistan, the World Bank and other international donors.
